What should I include on my cookie swap invitation?
I need display ideas. Can you help?
Do I need to set a time or can my party be more like an open house?
Since a cookie exchange party revolves around an event that requires everyone’s
participation, an open house isn’t a good idea. If you’d like to give your guests a broader
time range, consider putting a ‘swap time’ on the invitation. For example: Come and enjoy
an appetizer buffet from 3pm – 9pm. We’ll swap cookies at 6pm. This gives your guests
the option to come early, stay late or stay the whole time.
How do I know how many cookies everyone takes of each kind?
We have an entire web page dedicated to this question. Please visit our How to Swap
Those Cookies page for more information.
What type of cookie is best to make for a cookie exchange?
Just about any cookie will work, but try to avoid any cookie that needs to be refrigerated.
Most cookie exchange parties have a table to display the cookies before the swap
happens. You don’t want your cookies spoiling.
How many people should I invite?
That is completely up to you, but keep the following in mind:
- The size of your house
- How many people vs. the # of cookies (If you invite 30 people and ask them to bring
3 dozen cookies, each person will only get 1-2 of each cookie)
- There is a chance that everyone you invite will say ‘yes’. Be prepared to host
everyone you invite.
How do my guests take their cookies home?
As a host, you have two options:
- You can request that guests bring their own platter/box/basket to take their cookies
home.
- You can supply the basket/box/platter.
For more information, see our How to Swap Those Cookies page
Can more than one person bring the same type of cookie?
The goal of a cookie exchange is to leave with a wide variety of cookies. Encourage your
guests to RSVP with their cookie type to avoid duplicates. If someone shows up to the
party with a duplicate cookie, there isn't much you can do except enjoy the cookies!
When should I send my invitations?
Calendars tend to fill up quickly during the Holidays. If you are hosting your cookie
exchange during December, it is a good idea to send out the invitations 3-4 weeks in
advance. During other times of the year, send our invitations out 3 weeks in advance.
