Gingerbread Men Cookies
Thinking of hosting a Cookie Exchange?  Use our step-by-step guide to
help you plan, from 3 months in advance to post party.  Check out our
Cookie Swap Survival Kit and our Cookie Exchange Planner.
You're not done yet!  Time to clean up, post your photos & recipes to your personal
website and start planning for next year.

You can start by taking notes on what worked and what didn't.  Write down the
number of guests, how much food & drink you made and how much was left over.  All
of this will help you plan for next year.

-Pick a date, time and location to have your cookie exchange.  (Weekday or weekend?
Afternoon or evening? Your house or somewhere else?)

-Decide on who to invite.  Will you invite kids?  Is it a ladies only party?  (Don't forget
to mention this on the invitation.)  Need help keeping track of your guests?  Use our
printable
guest list form.

-Decide on your cookie exchange
rules/instructions (How many dozen cookies will
each guest bring?  Will you have contests?  Are you allowing 'no bake' cookies?  Are
guests bringing a dish to pass?)  Make sure all of this is included in your invitation.

-if you are planning on hiring a caterer, book them now.  Their calendars fill up quickly
About 3 months ahead:
-If you're going to make invitations, gather your supplies and start putting them together

-make sure you have everyone's correct mailing or email address

-mail or email invitations no later than 3 weeks in advance.  Calendars fill up quickly
during the Holiday season; you might want to send the invitations 4-6 weeks in
advnace.  Use our
guest list form to keep track of RSVPs
-If you are preparing all of the food and drinks, decide on your party menu (hors
devourers, buffet, drinks)

-buy
party favors and/or prizes (if you don't know the number of guests attending yet,
you can save this task until next week.)

-decide on your own
cookies and cookie display

-decorate early.  If you can get this done now, it will free up you time during the week
of the party
-If you haven't already, decorate your house.  (If you have already decorated for the
Holidays, there's not much left to do!)  If you choose a
different theme or time of year,
simple themed decorations can make your house more festive.

-contact anyone who has not responded yet and find out if they will be attending

-clean your house (do it now and you'll only have touch up cleaning to do the day of
the party)

-make a list of all of the supplies you will need and start purchasing/gathering the
non-perishable ones

-put
party favors together (plan on having 1-2 extra in case any unexpected guests
show up)

-chill drinks for the party (at least the day before so they have time to get thoroughly
chilled)  Don't forget to include non-alcoholic choices.

-make your
cookies (don't forget this!)

-If you can prepare any of the food ahead of time, it will save you stress on the day of
the party.
1 month ahead:
2 weeks ahead:
the week of the party:
-touch up cleaning (don't forget the bathroom.  Make sure it's clean and stocked with
supplies)

-prepare the rest of your menu

-set out
party favors near front door so guests don't forget to take them

-get yourself ready for the party (manicure, anyone?)

-depending on where you live, you might need to clear away any snow and ice from
your sidewalk.

-set up your
cookie display

-light candles, play music, enjoy party!
