How to exchange your cookies
Option 1
After you get all of the RSVPs in, you can contact everyone who is coming and tell them how
many dozen cookies to bring.

  • Example:  7 guests are coming + host = 8 total people
-have everyone bring 8 dozen if everyone wants to take a dozen of their own
-have everyone bring 7 dozen if guests do not take their own cookie

Pros and Cons -
-If cookies are prepackaged and your guest list changes, it could be hard to
figure out how to distribute the extra cookies.
-If you have a large quest list, it could be a lot of cookies for each guest to bake.
-You have to wait until after you get all RSVPs in, which takes away from planning
    time for your guests.
-You don't have to figure it out at the party to see how many cookies each
    person gets.

Figuring it out -
-each person takes one dozen of each cookie type.

Option 2
Have your guests bring a set number of cookies, no matter how many people attend the party

  • Example:  12 guests are invited and asked to bring 6 dozen cookies each.  9
guests (including the host) attend the party.

Pros and Cons -
-If your guest list changes at the last minute, it will be easy to adjust accordingly.
-Guests know as soon as they get the invite what they are committing to and can
    plan their cookie and display.
-You have to think on your toes a little to figure out how many cookies each
    person gets.

Figuring it out -
(# of cookies each guest brings) ÷ (# of types of cookies) = (# each person takes
    of each cookie type)

for example:  9 people attend and bring 6 dozen (72) cookies each
72 cookies ÷ 8 types of cookies = 9 cookies per type  [if they are not taking their own]
72 cookies ÷ 9 types of cookies = 8 cookies per type  [if they are taking some of their own]

How to swap cookies at cookie exchange
So, you've done all the planning and the guests have
all arrived with their cookies.  Now it's time to swap.
But exactly how do you go about it, making sure
everyone gets their fair share of cookies?  Here are
some tips to help you out:
How To:
As a host, you have two options:

You can request that guests bring their own platter/box/basket to take their cookies
home.  Make sure you have extra containers in case someone forget theirs.

You can supply the basket/box/platter.  This can get costly, depending on the
container you pick.  Check you local dollar store.

Don't forget to remind guests to separate their cookies when they get home so cookies
don't take on each other's tastes and/or become mushy.  Print out
these tags and attach
to each guests party favor.
