Ryan Abood, CEO of GourmetGiftBaskets.com, and mastermind behind the whole production, assembled a cupcake “dream team” including baker George Algarin and crew from California’s Merengue Bakery, and began making the monstrosity on Tuesday, August 12, five days before the scheduled unveiling.

“We started off with a goal of a 7,000 pound cupcake but fate intervened on Friday morning when the baking was supposed to be complete,” says Abood. “The huge 8 by 8 foot oven was opened and we found that the weight of the expanding batter crushed one of the main convection tubes blowing hot air into the heart of the cupcake causing the batter to separate, liquefy and crush the center of the cupcake from the inside out.” With only 24 hours left until the official weigh-in, the brilliant baking crew went into overdrive creating a new, customized mold and fresh batch of batter using an estimated 200 pounds of flour, 200 pounds of sugar, 200 pounds of butter and oil and 1,000 eggs.

The cupcake then baked for 12 hours and was loaded onto a refrigerated truck and driven 52 miles to the Dream Cruise. It was frosted and filled with custard, unloaded with the help of a forklift and then placed on a huge floor scale for an official weigh-in. Guinness Book of World Records adjudicator, Carl Saville, flew in from London the night before to announce the new world record in front of the crowd of hundreds. After the official weigh-in and declaration, the gigantic cupcake was placed on a special stage for the full red carpet affair, complete with velvet red ropes and security detail.

New Belgium’s Winter Seasonal Pays Homage to Framboise: Made with Fresh Raspberries, Frambozen is a Complex Indulgence

Upon selling 3,000 cupcakes this past Sunday, Phoebe Walters, founder and head of Phoebe’s Cupcakes, installed a second oven to increase capacity to 6,000 cupcakes a day, starting today.

Phoebe’s Cupcakes is now open for regular business hours of 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday to Thursday, 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Friday and Saturday, 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Sunday (Chicago store closed on Mondays). The Chicago location is in Lakeview at 3327 N. Broadway.    

Ms. Walters decided after the first hour and after the original expected turnout of 1,500 people was reached, to keep the oven going, even though the Chicago location wasn’t at full capacity yet, and said, “It was such a nice day and I didn’t want to disappoint anyone after the first 1,500 people were served.”

People waiting in line remained patient and were enthusiastic about Phoebe’s Cupcakes after trying the cupcakes. Said Leonard of Chicago, “I would stand in a pile of glass for an hour to get one of these cupcakes. I love them.”

Two local Chicagoans won Phoebe’s Golden Cupcake, an expensive, ultra premium, cupcake made with real gold topping. The two winners received certificates entitling them to a free cupcakes a week for life. Lien, the first winner, who works near the Chicago location, walked back into the store with gold still on her face, and said simply, “I think I won.” Geoff, the other winner, also remained calm, but his girlfriend jumped into the air screaming upon seeing the golden cupcake in the box.

While Phoebe’s Cupcakes provides affordable luxury with its price of $ 2.50 for a single cupcake bought in the Chicago store, Phoebe’s Golden Cupcake is a very expensive to make, premium gourmet cupcake available for special order that is offered for weddings and other catered events at $ 20 per cupcake, with a minimum size order of a dozen cupcakes. Mobifusion, Inc. Signs Worldwide Sales and Distribution Deal with Raspberry Software Limited

Mobifusion, Inc., a global developer, publisher and distributor of mobile applications and technologies, announced today that it has begun selling UK-based Raspberry Software Limited’s award-winning True Connect Pro, the first in a line of products to be offered from Mobifusion as part of the new sales and distribution agreement between the two companies.

True Connect is a unique product that allows mobile content users to use the mouse and keyboard of their PC to directly control the applications and data loaded on their handheld device. Control is initiated by simply moving the mouse cursor off the PC monitor, onto the connected mobile device screen, the same way a PC is operated.

According to Simon Hopper, director at Raspberry Software, True Connect users will be able to initiate hands-free calls, cut and paste text between their handheld device and the PC, and configure the device, just by using a PC mouse and keyboard. “Many Smartphone owners are a bit intimidated by all the new features and menus and are looking for ways to simplify the use of their device. True Connect makes it easy for them to enjoy their Smartphone features with the comfort of a PC interface and access, thereby gaining more from their investment in their Windows Mobile device,” said Hopper noting the product is even Microsoft Mobile2Market certified.

True Connect Pro retails for $ 29.99 and a Lite version for $ 14.99 is also available. For the month of February, True Connect will be available exclusively from Motricity at http://www.pocketgear.com, http://www.smartphone.net and http://www.mobile2day.de. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, Mandhani said that additional Raspberry Software products will become available throughout the year.
